STURGIS –A traffic stop turned serious when officers conducting it discovered a homemade pipe bomb.
The incident happened yes-terday in the Murray Addition area.
The suspects were arrested on drug and alcohol offenses. While searching the vehicle officers discovered the device so the bomb unit from Ellsworth Air Force Base was contacted.
Due to the potential danger the area was secured while the unit conducted its investigation along with the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation.
The bomb unit took the device to a secure location to be detonated. Sturgis Police Department was Assisted by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Ellsworth EOD. The case is still under in-vestigation according to Sturgis Department of Public Safety Director Geody VanDewater.
