Temperatures last week were very spring-like and pleasant on the days that were not windy. By early Sunday morning a small amount of moisture arrived, just enough to wet the ground, and temperatures were much cooler. Folks spent Sunday night watching weather reports as there were tornado alerts for that evening in different parts of the state.
On Saturday, June 13, there will be a Men’s Coffee & Rolls morning at the Community Baptist Church in Union Center.
Vacation Bible School in Union Center will take place from June 29 – July 2. For more information please contact Melanie Cammack.
Condolences go out to Norman Hanzlik and family in the loss of Norm’s brother, Maurice ‘Moe’ Hanzlik. On May 23rd there will be a burial at 11:00 am at the Fairpoint Cemetery. The family would love for friends to join them to share a light lunch afterwards at the Community Baptist Church in Union Center around noon. There will be a time of remembering and sharing stories. All are welcome.
Election Day is coming soon on Tuesday, June 2. There are many races taking place and many important decisions being made. Hopefully, voters start today to take time to research every candidate to elect the best for our communities and state. Leadership matters and we in South Dakota enjoy living in a great state that is envied by many across the nation.
On Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30 pm there will be a Pray for Rain/Praise Service at the New Underwood Community Center. It is non-denominational. You may bring bars/cookies for fellowship afterwards.
A week ago, Ryer Rhoden, son of Levi and Hillory Rhoden, had a four-wheeler accident where he sustained a serious head injury. He was flown to Denver, Colorado and is under great care there. His doctors are impressed with his responses and improvements. Please keep him in your prayers for full and complete healing. Also, please hold up Levi and Hillory and their families in your prayers through this journey.
For anyone who would like to meet the Governor, he will be at an event at the Knuckle Saloon on Friday, May 22 at 5:00 pm and will also be attending the Memorial Day ceremony at the National Cemetery on Monday. Having served in the Army National Guard, Larry Rhoden is now the South Dakota Commander in Chief of the Army National Guard. Larry comes from a family of service that reaches back to the Revolutionary War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Desert Storm. This title of Commander in Chief, he says, is probably the greatest honor he has had as Governor.
On Thursday, Larry and Sandy Rhoden will be at Copper Coffee in Union Center at 9:00 for a visit over coffee with folks before heading to Faith. All are welcome.
Memorial Day is the time when we remember those who are no longer in our lives, and we honor the memory of those who fought for our freedom. Be sure and thank a veteran who is still here this week, as we honor those who sacrificed much for our country. Have a blessed Memorial Day!
