Meade County Sheriff’s Office Shooting Investigation Results in Arrest
On July 20, 2026, at approximately 9:32 a.m., the Meade County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21000 block of Pleasant Valley Road following a report of a person who had been shot.
The Sturgis Police Department assisted with the response, as the two Meade County deputies on duty were actively investigating an unrelated assault in the Black Hawk area.
Upon arrival, law enforcement located an adult female victim inside a travel trailer. She had sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Monument Hospital for treatment.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Nappa, 50, of Dunedin, Florida. It is believed the suspect and victim did not know each other and were in separate trailers at the time of the shooting.
Following the investigation, Meade County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Nappa on the following charges:
Simple Assault: 22-18-1. Simple assault–Violation as misdemeanor–Third or subsequent offense a felony–Violation in other states.
Reckless Discharge of a Firearm: 22-14-7. Reckless discharge of firearm or shooting of bow and arrow–Leaving trip device–Possession of loaded firearm while intoxicated–Misdemeanor.
Nappa was transported to the Meade County Jail.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Sturgis Police Department for their prompt assistance and support during this incident. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
