It should be noted that after decades of organizing traffic control and flow, Public Works Director Rick Bush still seeks approval from the city council to close Main Street for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
He did just that at the June 15th meeting with Resolution 2026-28 to close streets. “So we’ll close Main at 2 a.m. August 7th until 2 a.m. August 16th. This includes traffic management, planning traffic conduits, towing, fire lanes and the overall game plan,” said Bush.
The plan includes temporary traffic controls like signs and barriers that will help keep traffic flowing. The council approved the resolution unanimously.
