A little bit of magic, love, and laughter came to the Sturgis Community Center Theater last night as the Sturgis Area Arts Council presented Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Enchanted Edition).
Directed by Thomas Golden, opening night was a magical evening from start to finish. A cast of 23 wove the story of Cinderella with delight and humor throughout. You knew it was going to be a special night the moment you walked into the lobby filled with princesses and princes.
Angel Orenstein (Staley) spread her magic across the evening as the Fairy Godmother. Cyrus Lyons charmed the audience as the Prince, while Marlene Kotab and Gary Nelson made a perfect royal pairing as Queen Constantina and King Maximillian.
Danilee Pudwill took the audience on a whimsical, hopeful ride in the role of Cinderella, working to escape the grip of her evil stepmother, played by Chris Kaitfors. Jennifer Loftin and Ella Henry clearly understood their roles as the stepsisters, keeping the audience laughing every time they stepped on stage.
A phenomenal supporting cast, including four white mice, Charles, and many more, rounded out the show and helped pull the production together.
The night ended in a well-deserved standing ovation for an incredibly talented cast. Three more performances remain: Friday and Saturday 7:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. The cost of admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children, unless dressed like a princess or prince, then admission is free.
