Bowler Arianna Plaggemeyer of Sturgis is headed to Junior Gold Bowling Nationals in Minneapolis. Arianna and her mother Ellen will leave Sturgis July 7th and return July 20th.
To help raise money for the trip, The Vet’s Club hosted Bingo June 22 which included a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.
Arianna has been bowling since she was 5 and got help from her brother. “Junior National Gold Bowling Championships are a major tournament, with kids from all over the country coming, from age 5 to 22, and the goal of the tournament is to get money for scholarships,”said Ellen. She serves as manager for her daughter and gets her to the tournaments.
How did Arianna get to be a bowler? “I was a huge basketball fan but then my brother started bowling and and that’s when I got interested ,” she said. She practices as much as she can at Sturgis Strikers bowling alley and participates in league play as well.
She utilizes the two hand approach to bowling and has been perfecting that as well. She doesn’t have any 300 games yet, which are considered perfect, but says even pros find it difficult to have a perfect game.
Meade County News asked about the “spin” that helps a bowling ball get to the pins and Arianna said oh yeah getting that right is crucial.
This will be the last tournament for Arianna since she’s a senior in high school and plans to be either a police officer or in the military.
