STURGIS— The community came together to help a Sturgis couple, Bob and Sondra York who are in fear of losing their home because of mounting medical bills. Their son Chris, despite working three jobs, found time to organize a fundraiser at the Loud American October 8th.
An all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed, a silent auction and donations helped out.
For Chris, taking up the mantle to help his parents was a no-brainer.
“ My parents are battling medical issues, my dad’s been fighting cancer for 15 years. I’m going through a breakup and moved home. But my income pays the bills but they keep mounting and I don’t want my parents to lose their home,” he said.
He’s grateful to the community because they’ve donated to the effort. And…
“The Loud American has been awesome. Dean and Mark, the waitresses and bartenders, they’re all willing to help people,” said Chris.
He added people who stayed at their house during the rally helped out and a friend, Phyllis Clarey, set up a GoFundMe account to accept donations.
“This community is amazing. They’re willing to help anybody. My parents have loved this community since they moved here. It’s been a great experience,” said Chris.
