By Brandon Bennett STURGIS — Local churches don’t have the monopoly on rally breakfasts, as students out at Sturgis Brown High School are slinging hash for attendees thanks to the new kitchen. Principal Pete Wilson was invited to the law enforcement briefing and talked about breaking the fast. “This is a fundraiser, it runs from 6 am to 11 am, we started last Thursday and go to this Friday and we have kids that are working there. It’s all you can eat buffet for $18,” he said. There’s showers for $10 or a breakfast and showers for $25 and the menu is French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy and milk, juice and coffee. Wilson assures that school cooks monitor the food to make sure it’s the right temperature. But students do the cooking. The money raised can go to a variety of things, such as furniture for the library or a TV for the common area. Additionally, the kids can put the fundraiser on their resume if they want to get into food service or the like. “These kids come in at five am and are her to clean up after it’s over and we want students who can interact with the public but we pay them for their work,” said Wilson.
