City Council Approves Search For New Bucket Truck

STURGIS—Public Works Director Rick Bush came before the Sturgis City Council at its meeting July 6th to ask for approval to begin looking for a replacement bucket truck because…
“A while ago our crew was working on a project and a vehicle struck the rear of the truck at about 35-40 miles an hour without slowing down.
The truck was heavily damaged and the adjuster totaled the truck,” said Bush.
The problem, added Bush is the department used the bucket truck just about every day hanging banners and with almost everything related to the Rally.
Staff began looking and found a 2019 Ford F550 with a 45 foot boom. Its cost is $60,000 but the dealer cut a deal for $57,000. With the $24,263 check from the other driver’s insurance company Bush said it’s workable.
“Renting is expensive and we do have two other options. Additionally we’re going to go take a look at the truck and see if it will work for us before we make any decisions,” he said.
Ward 2 councilor Tony Dargatz made the motion to approve the search and Ward 3 councilor Jim Thompson seconded it. The motion passed unanimously.
